The Latest Headlines
A glimpse of some recent coverage of animals issues in the mainstream media.

Animals as Food
Though most of the media's dialogue is about vegetarian and vegan diets, it often covers the plight of animals who are farmed or used for food, from factory farming to how ducks are force-fed for pate de foie gras.

Animal Experimentation & Testing
Vivisection, dissection, xenotransplantation, bioengineering: all of these affect the lives and dying conditions of millions of animals. The media is least sympathetic to the plight of animals in labs; read the articles and then influence a change of heart.

Animals Used for Sports & Entertainment
Always fun: torturing and killing animals for the sheer pleasure of it. Circuses, dog racing, sport hunting and the like. Some of this coverage is favorable but most of it is geared toward the spectator.

Animals as Commodities
Media coverage of leather, fur, wool, silk issues include activists' actions to end these industries, and include coverage of the treatment of animals to produce the end products.

Companion Animals
Dogs and cats comprise most of the news coverage, from individual cruelty cases to dog fighting busts. And the media is most friendly to our closest companions.

Legal Issues
In recent years there has been a vast increase in the number of animal protection laws initiated and passed, as well as convictions for animal cruelty. Many animal issues related to laws at all levels of government are covered in the media.

Legislative Issues
A lot of media coverage evolves around lawsuits initiated on behalf of animal protection against major corporations, institutions and public and private agencies as well as legislation introduced at city, state, county, national and international levels of government.

Commentary & Features
Not all of the news is hard cold facts; much of it is opinion and editorializing on the issues. You'll be surprised how much of the media takes the side of animals.

Viewpoints Opposing Compassion
Not all of the coverage is friendly! In fact, some of the opposition is downright nasty — if not misguided, uneducated, and incompassionate. And if it weren't so devastating to animals, it'd almost be funny, too.

Noteworthy
Education is key and we believe in bringing tidbits of information to your attention. Here you'll find all kinds of interesting facts, surveys, and other misc. reports to broaden your horizons.

Rescue & Rehabilitation
Who are the trench workers, the hands-on animal saviours? Meet them through the media outlet: the sanctuary operators, the in-field defenders, those who put their lives and their hearts out for animals.

Victories
Media coverage wouldn't be complete without its reports on how actions ARE being changed for the improved welfare of animals. The lineup is both impressive and inspirational.

Wildlife
From endangered species to environmental protection, the media abounds with coverage for threatened wildlife and its habitats. It also sports the writing on the walls...
